FishScience was created from a passion for fish and a desire to provide fishkeepers with high-quality, effective nutrition built around a genuine understanding of what fish need. Founded by Dr David Pool, a zoologist and freshwater fisheries biologist with more than 45 years of experience in fishkeeping, the company brings together scientific knowledge, practical experience and a lifelong commitment to the aquatic hobby.

Dr Pool's career has included more than 25 years with Tetra, where he worked across technical information, marketing and sales before becoming Managing Director of the UK's business. His extensive experience, alongside his work as an author and contributor to the fishkeeping industry, has helped shape FishScience's approach to developing products around the real needs of fish and fishkeepers.

At the heart of FishScience is a focus on high-quality ingredients, modern manufacturing and natural nutrition. The brand's foods use carefully selected ingredients such as Spirulina, Chlorella, Kelp and Haematococcus pluvialis, alongside natural health-supporting ingredients including garlic and beta glucans.

One of the brand's most distinctive innovations is its use of insect meal. Recognising that many aquarium and pond fish naturally consume insects and their larvae, FishScience uses insect-based proteins as an alternative to relying heavily on traditional fishmeal. The approach provides a highly digestible source of protein while also supporting a more sustainable approach to fish nutrition.

FishScience has also placed strong emphasis on real-world testing, with feeding trials involving experienced aquarists, the Federation of British Aquatic Societies and readers of Practical Fishkeeping Magazine. Today, the brand continues to develop a select range of aquarium and pond foods with a clear goal: to provide fishkeepers with products they can trust to help keep their fish healthy, active and vibrant.
